How we started our own campsite

If someone asked us many years ago if we had our own campsite, we would say yes, of course. This was always part of holiday dreaming on summer evenings when the kids were already asleep. Now is May 2020 and our new campsite is waiting for its first guests. Do you want to hear our story?

We are two families who met each other many years ago when being neighbors at a campsite. In the evenings we talked about our lives, jobs, future plans and all kinds of ideas, that come to our mind in a relaxed holiday atmosphere. Part of the evening talks was also dreaming about how we would run our own campsite.

Our dreams were meant to be realized, as two years ago a super plot next to the river Sava and near lake Bled was acquired. Besides working on required administrative papers and building permits, we were becoming camping industry experts. For the last few years, several different campsites in the Alps region were visited and receptionists were asked numerous questions to give us a complete picture of how to run a campsite in reality. Nothing was left unobserved – even sanitary buildings and all hidden corners of the campsites were checked like we would be ADAC inspectors. Ideas were well noted down.

We saw the potential to set up something special, although it would take a lot of work. Our goal was to have a laid-back place that would be sustainable, with different types of accommodation, and oriented to all kinds of sports enthusiasts. It should not be too fancy, but still with a lot of comforts and a home atmosphere. That is why we included Alpine cottages to promote glamping as a new trend in camping - with good old charm and cozy beds. This is just an add on to the idyllic nature, right next to the river.

We were working with architects. Spending many working hours in their design studios, considering all possible details and trying to remain realistic with the budget. The next step was organizing construction work, being proactive with building plans, and navigating all ups & downs that came about. There were many quick decisions made, hoping that everything will be all right. We have also spent a lot of time looking for friendly and helpful staff that will make the campsite life even cozier. Now we are on a planned track and yippee, the campsite will be opened in June. It will be waiting to welcome you this summer to show you what we have done. We faithfully followed our dreams from the past vacation days when we were guests at different campsites.
